Peel the beets and cut into slices. Peel the garlic and cut into slices.
Cut the cabbage into large cubes.
Layer cabbage, beets and garlic in a jar.
For marinade, boil water with sugar, salt, bay leaf and peppercorns. Boil for 1-2 minutes so that the salt and sugar are completely dissolved, add vinegar at the end.
Pour the hot marinade into the jar. It should completely cover the cabbage.
